Monday, October 13 was celebrated as Columbus Day, especially by those of Italian heritage. The reality of the disease and enslavement of indigenous people brought by Europeans was overlooked until recently, and now it commemorates Indigenous Peoples’ Day honoring Native American culture.
Monday, October 13 is Canada’s Thanksgiving Day.
Sunday, October 19 In 1781 the American Revolutionary War ended with British surrender in Yorktown VA. That’s the good news. In 1987 it was the worst trading day to date on Wall Street, with market losing over 22% of its value in one day.
Friday, October 31 is Halloween. Only the goblins know if the night sky and moon will be haunting for trick-or-treaters combing their neighborhood for candy.
