The 10th month of the year brings hints of ghosts and goblins, football games and beer and brats. For much of the country the weather turns cool and breezy with a crispness in the air, a welcome reprieve from a long hot summer.
We’re celebrating the publication of our new e-book Chesapeake Bay Road Trip, a driving guide to visit the 30 harbor towns and cities surrounding the Chesapeake Bay. We include maps, color photos, a distance chart and everything you’ll need to experience the adventure.
Dates to remember:
Monday, October 14 is Columbus Day when we officially celebrates the anniversary of Christopher Columbus’s arrival in the Americas.
Thursday, October 17 is October’s Full Moon, also called the Hunter’s and Harvest Moon. This year it’s a supermoon when means it coincides with perigee or the closest that the Moon comes to the Earth in its elliptic orbit. The result is a slightly larger-than-usual apparent size of the lunar disk as viewed from Earth.
Thursday, October 31 is Halloween, a holiday which has its roots in an ancient Celtic festival. It’s a pagan religious celebration to welcome the harvest at the end of summer, when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off ghosts.
