April 2024 News

Katie and Gene Hamilton

Signs of Sping are everywhere and hopefully that’s true for everyone. April’s big news is the total solar eclipse in the early part of the month. Later April brings more about Mother Nature in the month on Earth Day and Arbor Day.

Monday, April 1 April Fools Day (No foolin’)

Tuesday, April 2 through Monday, April 8 is International Dark Sky Week sponsored by www.darysky.org dedicated to protect the night with responsible outdoor lighting. The 5 things to remember: 1. Use light only if it’s needed. 2. Direct light so it falls only where it’s needed. 3. Light should be no brighter than necessary. 4. Use light controls like timers and motion detectors. 5. Use warmer color light where possible.

Monday, April 8 is the Total Solar Eclipse. We’ll be attending the event in Ohio and reporting about it when we return. This will be our second “totality” experience and we’re excited!

Monday, April 22 Earth Day is an annual event to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held in 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by Earthday.org including one billion people in more than 193 countries.

Tuesday, April 23 Full Pink Moon prepares us for warmer days and nights. It’s named pink because of the growth of colorful flowers, bushes and trees, sprouting pastel pink blooms.

Friday, April 26 Arbor Day Foundation celebrates the importance of trees. If you have little kids, download activity sheets about trees at their website arborday.org.
